Springtime Feng Shui
Time for Spring Cleaning and without even knowing it you get instant Feng Shui, well sort of. Â In addition to cleaning all of the windows, floors, drapes, bedding and switching out clothing, it is also a time that we throw away a lot of our clutter and that is when you start to allow more and better Chi flow into your space and therefore invite in good Feng Shui. Â I am mainly writing this blog as to inspire me to get cleaning even though the weather is still a little too chilly and windy to open up all of the windows ( another great Feng Shui cure), but I have started deep scrubbing and things are really beginning to sparkle and smell great again. Â Winter has us locking up our doors and windows and the air can get very stale. Â I suppose the same can be true for those that use their air conditioners 24/7 in the Summer. Â I prefer to have the windows and doors wide open when the weather gets warmer. Â I love to let the sun shine in and I bask in the glow and warmth and I very rarely use air conditioning; that is just a personal preference, but it is better for our health and better for the environment to forego the air condition and at least periodically open a window. Â Now of course if it is very humid and 100 degrees, I will put the air on, but mainly for my dogs.
Spring is a time for renewal, rebirth, celebrations; a time to reflect on the beauty and is coming forth, a time for hopeful new beginnings fresh with inspiration and magic.
So, if you are inspired each Spring to get things clean and clutter free then I say “Get to it”. Â Here are some of my favorite Feng Shui tips for ushering in the new Season and bringing great energy into your home:
How to discern what to keep and what to toss- If it is not Beautiful, Useful or Joyful, then it has got to go!
- Declutter everything– Your car, closets, drawers, garage, attic and rooms – Baby steps are needed here. Â I go crazy in spring cleaning out everything, polishing up, dusting, vacuuming and throwing away. Â If that is too overwhelming, commit to 10 minutes of decluttering per day, every day; set a timer and when the timer goes off you are finished for that day. Â This way you will not get cleaning burn out. Â If you can commit to this for a month, it will become a habit and help you remain clutter free forever!
- Clean your windows– This allows bright spring time light to come through; bringing good white light energy.
- Open the windows and the doors and allow fresh air to flow through your home.
- Bring in some new potted plants and flowers- Â It adds new life to your space.
- Clean under your bed and furniture, this allows good Chi (energy) to flow around everything.
- Clean body Feng Shui- Spring is the perfect time to eat more greens and fruits and eat lighter to cleanse the body too. Â Green Tea and Lemon Water helps to clean out a clogged liver which helps cleanse the body as well.
- Reconsider Toxic Relationships- The people in our lives provide energy to our lives; good energy or draining energy. Â Who is taking more than they give? Now is a time to consider who nurtures you or who is weighing you down.
- Computer and online clean up– Clean out those inboxes ( I currently have over 28,000 un-read messages in one of my inboxes and I am horrible about hoarding with virtual clutter). Â This is also a good time to look at your friend’s lists and clean them out too. Â You know those people that never have anything good to post online? Â You love or like them, you have been friends forever so you do not want to delete them, but their negative comments make your stomach tighten – You can choose to Unfollow them without defriending, this way you remain online friends, but you will no longer see those negative words and feelings. Â Dumping files off your hard drive too also helps clean up needed disk space.
- Mind clean up– Your mind is the most important space that you own and that needs to be cleaned up. Â Meditation is the key. Â I am horrible and slowing down and taking moments to clear my mind; I know I should do it, I know that I NEED to do it for my well being, but it does not happen as often as it should. Â What to do? Â Close your eyes (go ahead and do it now) and take 3 deep breaths. Â I just did it in mid-type. Â Try and do that several times a day if you cannot bring your self to meditate for an extended period of time. Do this EVERYDAY!
Anything that you can do each day to make a positive change in your Mindy, Body, Spirit and Space will bring good Chi to you and help you Feng Shui your life. Â When you clear out the cobwebs, you invite more prosperity and abundance into your life; you invite positive people and co-cooperatives into your life as well. Â It is a flow that begins with one small intention and will continue to flow just adding more and more positive experiences to your life every day. Â If you choose to clear it up your life will look and be completely different in a very short amount of time.
With love and light xoxo -Kim
